Anytime anyone approaches me wanting $5, $10, $20, or whatever, I ask them what they need the money for (because I don't carry cash on me). If they want some food, some gas money, a bus ticket, or something like that, I'll just buy it for them.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
