I sometimes wonder if they don't have that simply because they don't have the same arbitrary societal structures around gender norms. Like, "you do therefore you are". I kinda hope so~
I've known for years about hermaphrodites. But hermaphrodites are normal for some animals. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure I've read about it in writings that were hundreds or thousands of years old.
