I've found no solution except sit right at the front, so most of the anti-social chavs are behind me where their phone screens can't ruin things. I've tried reporting them to cinema staff in the past, who are helpful with it, but it causes more drama than its worth.
Old standard was a flashlight flicker blasting, but that was mainly just repurposed tech for people catching those fooling around in the back row or so getting caught.
i cancelled my cineplex subscription because this shit was happening at literally every screening i went to :/
i started considering bringing an old shoe with me to toss at someone's head if i saw them do that shit again but i just don't see movies at big theatres anymore
that reminds me, at the Nier concert we were both at, a girl sitting directly in front of us was on her phone nearly the entire time, just casually texting people. I could see everything she was doing. It was incredibly distracting
the people sitting next to me had their phone out filming the entire thing at that concert 🙃 i shoved my hand in the way of their phone and they put it away.... only for their friend one seat over to do the filming instead
i genuinely think something is in the water here. like bad manners exist all over but vancouver is overwhelmingly the worst i've seen people behave in closed spaces. it bums me out!
on the very rare occasion I've had to check my phone after the lights have gone down (usually to verify if I muted it), I try my best to keep it inside my purse and peek inside so that no light escapes. I'd find it less enraging if ppl at least TRIED to be sneaky about it, but they just don't GAF
