Texan here, living through state nonsense for years...

This feels similar to what Texas has gone through for the last 6-8 years. The Rs running the state saw the influx and homegrown progressivism changing the state and they pushed it hard right to make TX as unappealing as possible.

There aren't enough overseas positions for everyone (and of course not everyone can move) but some will go abroad and some others will just leave academia.

We're just not prepared to risk their health and quality of life. They're willing to come with us, but moving is stressful even when you're young, and we don't want to separate them from decades of relationships. Moreover, flying is out of the question in one case, which limits where we can go.
