I'm cool with violently taking wealth from the rich but I'm curious why abolish private property, and does that only include like real property or all private property?
Private property is the means of production that must be seized. Anything used to generate wealth Personal property is what an individual owns for their own use.
Personal property is for your own use, sorry i wasnt clear oops
It's nice if communities have communal stuff (think tools), but it's not a given under a socialist system, just that the means of production are communal and care is built in (like healthcare)
Thank you so much! Coming from a potlatch system it's always interesting to learn about socialism from people who don't think we are their primitive form.
And i agree communal tools are nice, especially for community tasks
The fact that anyone, but that means THE RICH (who don't truly work for their riches) can buy up property ad infinitum, and turn around and either rent it out, or flip it all for a profit, fucking over the masses, is the kind of "private property" that MUST be abolished
The phrase used in the meme has legal meaning, a meaning responders, including yourself, have stated is not the intended meaning, which makes me glad I asked for clarification.
Don't mind me, I just take any and all opportunities to spout off about how f-d this system is we're all trapped in. But glad that helped (truly I just would like to go occupy a small empty space somewhere, without being beaten to a pulp for trying to do so w/o paying some asshole for the "right")
Private and personal property are used differently in a leftist context than in a legal context. Personal property is stuff like, your toothbrush, your clothes, your gaming system. Private property is like AirB&Bs and landlord owned housing
It is worth noting that there are forms of communism that hold all property in common, even personal property (although in practice there does tend to be some personal property that is only used by one individual.) Christian communism, some experiments in anarcho-communism. But it’s not common.
Oh hard same. Niitsitapi thought is very communal but there’s things that are so belonging to an individual that you’re not even supposed to touch it without permission and some things you’re not even posed to look at unless you’re initiated into certain societies or you’re the person who owns it
Abolishing private property is generally in reference to real property, not personal property. Though some traditions do question the role of “personal” property and what that means in a communal sense. The existence of private property is used to protect capital.
The real property makes more sense to me then all, though i suppose its like everything, depends on the people i am talking to and how they have lived sustainably and if decolonization or Indigenization are options to lead them back to a different home.
