Today’s #forgottensitcom is Shelley (ITV 1979-92) created and initially written by the inestimable Peter Tilbury and starring Hywel Bennett as an over-qualified layabout. A very smart show. The sort that doesn’t get made these days.

SHELLEY: What do think of the situation in the middle east?
MENSA CROWD: (SILENCE)
SHELLEY: How about the Government's new policy on our nuclear deterrent?
MENSA CROWD [MORE SILENCE BUT LOOKING AROUND SHRUGGING SHOULDERS]
(2/3)
Always watchable, Hywel Bennett more than made sure of that.
Question is though, just how many sitcoms - especially ITV ones - are being commissioned today, let alone ones of the calibre you've mentioned here recently?
