The whole "The dogma lives loudly within you" thing that made her famous to begin with was Dianne Feinstein making an issue of a paper Barrett wrote against the death penalty. It was a proxy fight for abortion, but in a very real way it was at its core about the death penalty.

Stevens, Souter, O’Connor, Kennedy, Earl Warren for that matter. Plenty of examples of Republican nominees pushed to the left (or perhaps staying still while their party jerked right).

Oddly, very few in the other direction at SCOTUS, the quite a few in the lower courts. Esp. Clinton appointees.
