Such amazing news, I am so happy for folks in Thailand. Like the hard work folks on the ground have been doing is really showing up and things look like their going to keep going up and up of folks keep up the pressure.
I can imagine this becoming a popular option for same sex couples from across the region. Not to mention a natural expansion of the Thai Wedding tourism market from the West.
I grew up in Thailand in the 80s and 90s looking to the US as a modern place with more freedom, and worked hard to move here. Now Thailand almost feels like a modern country compared to the the steaming pile of crap the US is becoming. Unreal. Happy for the friends and family still living there.

This is done not through court cases but by actual amendment to the Civil Code, which tends to be far less vulnerable to being dismantled the way civil rights are in the US.

Luckily, in spite of a lack of gender recognition bill, universal healthcare already includes gender-affirming care, including surgery. (This change went into effect in late 2023.)

You know, I lived in Thailand and always found them to be open and accepting to the spectrum of human sexual orientation and expression. I saw zero no homophobia or transphobia when I was there. Congrats on this important legal step.
I always found it strange that legally they have not been very progressive when it comes to LGBT rights but culturally they are among the most progressive. Same with the philippines. Id prefer a place that is both but if i had to choose I'd pick the culture over legal.
