Same here in France as far as I can tell. (My wife knows wines much better than I do so she's the one who usually orders, and tastes)

It’s probably also quite cultural: here waiters (I don’t go to fancy restaurants, maybe it’s different there) behave quite familiarly so usually the bottle arrives to the table with a comment such as “who is the boss here” 🤌 and then they chose the most bossy looking person
