As a lawyer who does Equal Pay law it is interesting to note that the prospect of young men falling behind young women is causing a sense of societal crisis that the reverse position consistently failed to invoke.

Have you read The Word For Woman Is Wilderness? It is about exactly the point you are making. The lack of equitable perception and treatment of women by society. It is very stream of consciousness. I love it. It may drive someone else nutz. But it is still worth a read.
I find stats that in 2022 60% college students and in 2019 50% of med school was female. Some religions adhere to the women being subservient and/or trad wife, so it is especially hard for them to accept.
I also get the feeling that medicine (and then biology to a lesser extent) can be more accepting of women because "medicine" can be tied to "nurturing" and bio, which used to be a hard science, is increasingly being seen as "less hard" than, say, physics
Difficulty is sometimes a matter of opinion. Just saw a doc today after a mandolin event. It takes a broad skill set in multiple areas not only empathy and bio. They must battle RFK, social issues, reporting laws, business....
I'm not of course talking about whether ppl are competent in fields based on hormones and genitals, more a comment on why society seems to complain less about those particular fields getting woman dominance.
I do know people who prefer female docs but it is not because they think they are more nurturing. It has to do with sexism. I stopped seeing 2 docs for that reason. The others of both genders were just fine.
Fighting over scraps is precisely what it is. Many careers and positions are undervalued and seriously underpaid. Most corporate positions are overvalued, overpaid and underwhelming where responsibilities are concerned. Few show the responsibility, respect, empathy and care. Horrible corporate type
White men in this country have always been afraid of losing power if everyone is given equal opportunity. I don’t get it, but been that way from the jump.
Women complete 50 bullet points before they get to work, and after, raising children. Possibly breastpumping en route to work after no sleep. They also have to look great and perform better. So we just laugh and fume at mommy's boy/men with money. We have always been devalued. Men allowed this. Btw.
Young men have changed. Back in the day young men were focused on college and careers, now its gaming. Now of the kids we train, the girls are much more focused and dedicated. More girls are going off to top colleges on scholarships, sports and academic. Many colleges have 2:1 female to male ratios.
Goodness, if I was in high school today, forget gaming....I would study super hard and get into college and be the most polite and most wonderful young man on campus!
This is essentially it. Considering stereotypical roles in a family where both partners work, women still usually end up doing more. When coupled with a workload that pays less, that's wrong. Looking legitimate equality SHOULD bring everyone up. For singles, equality is a necessity just to live.
Depressingly, I don't even think it's just "the patriarchy". It's that when women felt or were disadvantaged, it didn't go hand in hand with a 20% + vote surge for the far right. So yeah - crisis.
It's been the same with education and exam results for decades. Every time girls' results are better than boys', there's some kind of national uproar. Even in 2025, it seems women should still be on the back foot.
Yeah, I get the ‘boo-fucking-hoo’ argument. But a family household needs 2 decent salaries to just survive nowadays. The bigger goal must be real living wage for everyone AND the return of merit/performance increases. Otherwise we all lose.
Because society still expects men to pay for everything and women to do all the child minding and housekeeping.
Men falling behind in pay is seen as failing of the social duty.
Even in the dating world now men are expected to pay for the dates by a large majority of people.
That part is still true, although improving with each generation. I was more specifically referencing your position on men paying for everything. I, and all of my female peers, were already going "Dutch" 40 yrs ago. Men were already expecting a 2nd income from women in marriages.
Society needs to change. Running a household or minding children should not be seen as “women work”
And men should not be expected to be the breadwinner and pay.
Women who chose not (or are unable) to have children are looked upon as lesser and that’s wrong. Men who can’t pay are seen as deadbeats who are looked down on. Also wrong.
Society needs a massive change to correct these issues
Starting from a position of privilege, equality feels like you are being hard done.
Not surprising.
And massively popular with young men not prepared to up their game.

...though the moment I say that, fluid-dynamics physics enters the chat
(NB my overall view is that this kind of tension comes from the bigger real inequality crisis that means the 99% fight over the scraps)

Racist cops isnt my reality yet it exists.
Private schools and their networks are not my reality yet…
