Our younger kid, in HC, had the opposite experience at TM. Extremely amazing community with tons of support and engagement. Yeah, so ironically the most socioeconomically diverse private schools are the religious ones. My husband went through Christian school and is very opposed to that option. But independent private is $30k+ for elementary/middle. HS? $45K+ I've known some of those fams and get the same snooty vibes.

One of the things I find frustrating is the *number* of parents willing to pay that kind of money (plus the annual donations) rather than putting that into their neighborhood school. Our public schools could be so good.

I agree. Bellevue asked parents like that what it would take to switch. They told them HCC and option programs. They provided it and many switched

Totally. But that does make the socioeconomic picture more complex. It's something I struggled with, because theoretically I'm on board with independent private schools (if I have to choose a private school flavor) but Catholic or Lutheran Church funding introduce more diversity into their schools..

And we're both theoretically all-in on public because of the collectivist principle. The system degrades further as people exit. But I get that everyone has a line for their family well-being. I wish SPS didn't make this so hard and do so much directly counter to the health of the district.
