Many people are under the mistaken impression that rules have power. Rules have no power on their own. The enforcers of rules have power and they can choose when and against whom to enforce the rules. The Constitution doesn’t mean shit without a government that wants to enforce it.

Andrew Jackson literally said “you like these rules so much, YOU enforce them” to the Supreme Court when they ruled.
The issue with people is that they're okay with stuff until they're not, and when they're not, they will broadly "escalate" in tearing down society and avenues of trust for power.
