Kiddo has been stressed to make a comic because he couldn’t “draw it good.” I told him everyone likes kid drawings because they are so wild. Anyway, he started a comic today.

His greatest art weapon at his age is being unburdened by perfectionism, and being able to go full ham with experimenting. But I totally understand it because I also had the same problems from his age to now, and I wish I was told this early on.
I am always stressed that my profession may hurt his confidence in this area. But I told him I am 33 years ahead of him in practice and I think that put things in perspective for him.
Kid drawings are the best. They don’t have our hang-ups and biases. They’re just like, “There’s a dinosaur there because I wanted there to be a dinosaur.”

But also yes, worrying about being “good” is normal whatever stage you’re at, so I hope he does manage to push forwards!
