The biggest of these newly announced projects is Microporous’s $1.3B lithium-ion battery separator plant, which will employ up to 2015 people outside Danville, VA.

That means Virginia notched a spot in the Southeast’s growing Battery Belt.

I didn't know about the South Boston titanium recycling facility.

The new factory in Danville will actually be a manufacturing facility, producing the porous, plastic separators used to separate the anode and cathode in a lithium-ion battery cell.

Super cool science. Titanium recycling today is very expensive & requires enormous energy input.
The Kroll process, the company that set up its facilities in South Boston uses a new patented process called HAMR, much less energy input. Company is IperionX.

Although our summary stats above exclude battery factories focused on grid storage, newly formed Shelbyville Battery Manufacturing (subsidiary of Canadian Solar) just announced a $712 million battery factory that will employ 1572 people in Shelbyville, KY.
