I’m disabled and use chat gpt to assist in tasks that are otherwise impossible. I would not have gotten proper medical treatment or access to resources without it.
AI is not the problem.
Greedy corporations that refuse to account for any sense of morality are the problem.
I should have clarified. Using it in cases like this is exactly what it’s beneficial for. It’s more an issue when it’s neurotypical, able bodied people consuming resources with it for things it’s utterly not necessary for
So fun fact: I am a teacher and I just got out of a meeting where my school district is encouraging us to use AI and I am using AI to make a lesson plan right now. In fact, I am getting rewarded for doing this :D
I am a teacher too. Making lesson plans is a collaborative thing. Bounce off of other teachers. Good teachers make great teachers steal and improvise. That communication and collaboration matters more
There is an interesting concept to be had in your mockery how we as a species offload a lot of our thinking to our phones and ai integrating into your thought process is certainly a change. But is it a bad thing? We offload math to our phones for instance how much is healthy, when is it to much?
I draw on my cintiq perfectly fine without ai. I just love using ai together with my drawing as it makes life easier and the process is just so much fun the results you get drawing with a live generating ai plugin is magical.
You can try to paint it however, but if you use AI in your creative processes, you’re not an artist, you’re a thief, and a lazy one at that. At least other people put in the effort to trace what they want to steal.
Clearly you aren’t happy with your own skills if you’re relying on a machine that steals from other artists. Again, it sounds like you’re very lazy and just don’t want to take the time to get better.
I've seen code written by ChatGPT. A consultant showed me why he thought my job was redundant.
"Can I try it?"
"Sure!"
I checked if he was running against a local db, which he was. So I entered some values and hit submit.
It coughed up a SQL exception.
Also, his Suppliers table was gone.
It went down? Is that so one of the oligarch-master-wannabes can infiltrate it? Another attempt to quash the truth from becoming available to everyone.
I only use AI after I've written a bunch of original stuff. It's helpful with plot points, suggestions, and questions about the story. I put an AI story I wrote 6 years ago into Copilot in Dec 23 then it started writing more of the story without a direct prompt. It was a bizarre experience.
the computers that power chat gpt are so tightly packed together that they generate an incredible amount of heat, so they use evaporative cooling methods to cool them down. larger facilities can use up to millions of gallons of water per year
Whoa crazy! We don’t use our water wisely in general. I live on the coast and everyone uses dehumidifiers and it’s crazy how much water it collects. I just get 5 gallons a day from my two dehums. Seems like should be an easier way to create more water. Saw a dehum that makes drinking water tho!
I get it, originality is important, and if ChatGPT goes down, most of us can still write fiction. But for people with brain injuries or challenges, it’s a lifesaver. It helps them communicate, stay organized, and manage life. Not everything AI does is robot poetry, sometimes it’s about independence.
i'm just having so much trouble seeing this point especially considering how its detrimental to the environment to use ai right now. what's an example of something ai helps with that makes anything about that tradeoff worth it? /gen
i'm not an expert but every enviromental impact i've looked into has turned out to be nbd. for example the water they use is in a close loop. i could be wrong tho
as for a positive use, i work for the welfare state, helping poor people. we use ai to work much more efficiently, helping more people
the impact comes from what it takes to train the AI, not so much when you actually use it. (i didnt know this until just now because i just looked it up) and thats really interesting, ive never heard of that! what does it help you guys with? like organization type of things?
When I was recovering from my TBI, ChatGPT basically became my brain’s understudy. It helped me find words when my brain was “wonky donkey”, read when my vision was like a broken 3D TV, and introduced me to tools I didn’t know existed. Also helped me get organized and figure out my medical results.
This is a fair and valid point. I’d love to see more free resources available to neurodivergent and elderly individuals that don’t have a detrimental impact to the environment. If you or others know of some, please lmk. 🫶🏻
Unless you’re somebody with brain injuries using it, this feels weirdly ableist to insinuate that these people aren’t capable of like. Living their lives without relying on AI.
And BFFR that’s NOT the majority of chat gpt’s user base.
As someone with a TBI, I have pointed out the benefits l've personally witnessed and experienced with Al, as it was an accessible and known resource for me and others amongst some of the minority of ChatGPT users. That is all. 😊

Researching and reading are two extremely vital skills that more and more people are giving up on in favor of ChatGPT doing it all for them, and in a climate of literary crisis it’s alarming to see how much it’s being abused by people that don’t need it.
I couldn’t agree more! As a parent I’ve strived to inspire multifaceted literacy and creative critical thinking skills. We are avid book readers and love the local library, so I hope that continues into adulthood for them.
Thats interesting, thank you for sharing! It sounds like i misunderstood what you were saying - i have less of an issue with AI as a whole used like that, and much more of an issue with generative AI being used by people looking to cut corners. I apologize for the jump.
No, I’d agree. I should say this isn’t the case for what I’m seeing though. It’s neutrotypical people or people cheating on assignments ranting. Ofc it isn’t black and white but this angle (a really good purpose for it) is far less used in favor of how others do it
Totally get these posts and also asking folks in conversations about AI to remember the disabled community as some of this technology is being used to support access for people who are blind & low vision, etc 💕🌷☺️ Please advocate for AI ethics and promoting accessibility-first endeavors! 💐
that’s deadass like just changing a few words in game of thrones and calling it your own book. will ppl never realize that ai is not a replacement for human creativity and is just a mockery of it
It's still hard for to understand how something that's been around for all of ten metaphorical minutes can be engaged like a core part of the culture that disappeared. How are people suddenly useless without this brand-spanking-new thing?
Sometimes people with TBI’s use ChatGPT as an aid to simplify, because using their damaged brain isn’t working. It also helps them have some sort of independence with communication etc. I’ve seen it first hand help stroke victims. Just my 2 cents. 😅

There’s nuance to it
But don’t worry, I’m here, so you can keep dodging those “horrors” of independent creativity. 😏
And if writing is the equivalent of doing the dishes to you, bud just find a different hobby
