On Monday, Popular Information broke the news that the NIH had frozen virtually all grant funding in violation of 2 federal court orders

On Wednesday, NIH leadership distributed a memo, acknowledging that its funding freeze was illegal and directing staff to resume issuing grants.

It really sucks, but it's looking increasingly like the best case scenario is that in four years, they haven't turned the country into a permanent fascist dictatorship, and everything still exists, but is broken on some level. Rebuildable — but a massive, completely unnecessary pain.

What I'm seeing is that all of the "backing away" is half-assed, leaving institutions in worse shape than January but giving advocates the impression Issue A or B is now "fixed".

I'm angry until every dataset and landing page has been restored, & we can show they haven't been altered.
