BREAKING: An immigration court determined our client Mahmoud Khalil to be removable from the U.S. based solely on his political speech.

The fight isn't over — we'll keep fighting for Mahmoud's freedom and all of our First Amendment rights in federal court.

A lot of people saying this was the expected result in an immigration court but I'm not sure what they're seeing it think he has better chances in a federal court. And even if this is the expected precedent, it's still some Nazi shit.

American immigration courts are awful, a facsimile of justice by design. One thing a lot of people don't realize is their judges aren't normal Article III judges who are part of the judiciary, they're DOJ (Executive Office of Immigration Review) employees who report to the Attorney General.

Immigration courts are administrative courts within the DOJ. They aren't Article III judiciary.

IIRC, they aren't allowed to rule on issues of constitutionality.

So the judge who made that decision may be banging their head against a wall as we speak.
