Durham is great for a wander. Crook Hall and gardens is genuinely a hidden gem.

Durham Cathedral, esp Galilee Chapel & Chapel of the Nine Altars which contains Fenwick Lawson’s ‘Pietà’.
The walk down South Bailey to Prebends’ Bridge & across to iconic view of river, castle & cathedral from the weir.
Crook Hall (NT) if you like gardens
Wharton Park for cathedral views

If you have transport, Finchale Priory ruins are beautiful - on a bend on the river just north of the city. There may be a bus, I’m not sure.
