I'm allowed to express my opinion when I think one of my favourite artists could be spending their time better. Yes, they are perfectly at liberty to ignore it, as are you.

He is closer to a master than a puppet, I wish he'd act like it.

I just think it's unfair to directly contact someone insulting something they took part in. He doesn't know you and he doesn't owe you anything, so I suggest maybe leave him alone. Maybe take your own advice and just ignore it, eh?
