I remember working in one of those chain pubs that had a "fun factory" attached for kids in the late 90's

Mid-Nov onwards was torture when corporate sent out the Christmas cassette to the landlord for exclusive play for the next 6 weeks.

Shop tapes were absolute torture. We had one in Game (late nineties) that was on loop for MONTHS and I swear if I hear Eagle Eye Cherry’s Save Tonight again it’ll trigger a complete psychotic breakdown

Dozens of tracks on it but it only ever plays you 3 on loop.

I had a job rehabbing a chain pharmacy over night shifts. We only had to hear their programmed tape at the beginning and end of shifts. When the gig was over I took one of their hours-long tapes home, and about 40 minutes in I put a Butthole Surfers on there, and put it back on the office shelf.

At least at Blockbusters we had a pause while the tape rewound. But there were quite a few occasions where we "forgot" to hit play again.

Worked at a fairground in Perth, Australia back in 2003. There was a truck there selling BBQ ribs and it played Duelling Banjos from Deliverance on loop all day long. I felt so sorry for the people working there.

I remember going mildly insane when I worked at Apple and they got The Beatles on Apple Music. Nothing but The Beatles on the store system all day everyday for 3 months. But at least that was more than one song. Poor bastards.
