It is very hard for people to unlearn the incorrect and incomplete histories they were taught in primary and secondary school. It takes a lot of reprogramming. And even then it can be undone as the individual ages into their 80s.
It takes deliberate effort. You have to not only find out that what you thought isn't true and deal with the discomfort that causes, but also find out the truth so you can overwrite the lie.
And a random coalition person heckled Debbie Ngarewa-Packer when she spoke, yelling out "what about the Moriori?"
It looks like they've decided to try to defuse questions about the genocide in Gaza by saying Māori were also genocidal colonizers. Just awful stuff.
I didn't see who it was; I only heard the voice. But, yes, whoever it was, it's despicable.
They're really emboldened in their awfulness at the moment.
