They weren't though. All those journalists standing there and not one of them stepped back to ask about the agenda behind Seympur's words. They just accept him at face value even when what he says is nonsense.

They really don't accept him at face value. But we'll never know how they would've reacted because Guy Williams hijacked the press conference. And now the story is the spat between a politician and a comedian. That's on Guy Williams. He gave Seymour exactly what he wanted.

They seem to be almost punching down some of these 'ponder pieces'. Maybe stick to rating chips rather than beleaguered former politicians - and errant comedians. Guy showed them up by playing the fool as The King held court, ad hominems are a lose in my book -not a win.

Exactly. Seymour had no answer except to switch into bully mode and launch personal attacks. He doesn’t come out of that looking good. And the journalists who closed ranks around him don’t either.

Yes, it wasn't the best question, but even that was enough to puncture the polite fictions of the press conference and throw Seymour off stride.

After my initial comments on another post this morning, I've seen two major arguments which are that Guy should have had proper questions AND evidence, and that he isn't a journalist so it doesn't matter. The Seymour arguments are that he didn't lose his cool, and Guy baited him. 1/2

2/2 It also shows that no matter what Seymour's behavior is, they will find excuses for him and portray him as the victim of the situation. His continual 'portrayal' as the 'rational calm' one has firmly taken root in many people's head without them even realizing. They don't have to be ACT voters.
