Jellied cranberry sauce… it’s tricky to get out in one piece! In the US, there can be a debate about which kind of sauce to feature and, I just publicly took a side!!!!
I JUST found out this Thanksgiving that my family would prefer that kind of cranberry sauce! I have been buying whole berry and stirring it up. Or, twice over the years, from scratch. Never this “kind” And to find out they want THIS!?! Where did I go wrong!?
Funny thing. When I was about 5 years old I got to sit at the big table (we could seat 15 or so, it was a really big table). Took one look at that quivering mass and said “nope.” Still have never tasted it — or real cranberry sauce for that matter. Mother, spouse, kids — they love it.
My sweet, gentle BIL had come to a bunch of Thanksgivings before he asked if we could please have the good kind of cranberry sauce (instead of the one I had been making). He meant this kind, pushed out of the can and carefully sliced. We still serve it that way even though he's no longer with us.
