Only if its a really shit display in the first place. A good one with proper glass and seals wouldn't be effected at all. Heck if it also had a good digitizer the touch screen would even work under the paint. Any damage there would come from the paint remover, that shit is caustic as hell.

Maintenance on a cheap pad/screen of any kind? You're joking. It's easy to maintain & repair a basic old-school push-button elevator control system. All you can do with a malfunctioning pad/screen is tear it out & buy a new one. If you call that "maintenance" ok

I said basic maintenance, with a digital interface basic maintenance is wiping it down, where as a physical device can stick or jam which is covered under basic maintenance. I also said until major damage such the digital interface being damaged. This when it becomes more expensive.

I work in an industry where we have been having the same problem. The device manufacturers have replaced many of the interfaces with digital devices because it is cheaper and easier for them, where as with us if someone breaks one instead of it being a $30 switch its more like $5000 panel.

That's exactly what I was getting at: the user-facing parts of digital interfaces actually break down more frequently than the old switches & levers...& the digital stuff isn't built for repairability. It's a big hunk of expensive junk that can only be totally replaced instead of fixed.

Side rant but I found it funny, a bit ago I was looking at trading in my daily for something new. The dealer kept trying up sell me about digital dashs, radio, ac, everything you name it. I just kept say no I don't like it. It got to the point he was trying to sell me based on the new badge design.

And that is where you are 100% right. All this digital crap these days is expensive trash literally designed to break. The problem there is the general consumer either doesn't care or loves it. And the manufacturers love to say that you have to replace the the entire module instead of the component.
