Our (Americans) understanding of WWII is so fucked up. The role America played in the rise of Nazi Germany through its own eugenics policies and the vast amount of sympathy for the German project are something that hasn't been fully conquered in our own institutions.

I was trying to think why this modern day eugenics stuff is bothering me so much - besides the obvious number one reason - and I think part of it was because many eugenicists were academics.
