I'm over in eastern Europe and literally everybody I talk to calls it JIT

They also say ES QUEUE ELL instead of 'Sequel' so we're not going to use those otherwise excellent developers as definitive.

Further, they likely do not speak English, and so the English rules of prononciation do not apply.

It's actually kind of wild, almost everyone my age (33) is totally fluent, from what I'm told largely due to Cartoon Network apparently being available here around the same time?

I just personally find it funny how everyone here says GIF but then also says JIT. There's no rules or here

There is a really easy way to solve this issue. Everyone can just learn to accept that some things are pronounced differently by different people. Someone wants to say JIF then let them, the same goes for people who pronounce it GIF. Language is hard and ever changing so just accept that and move on

We could go into P vs. Ph, and so on, but I think I'll just say that people who pronounce it JIF are welcome to do so, and I think they're wrong, and OK with clear inconsistencies.
