Does anyone else use a PC monitor vertically? I have two 24" monitors, one landscape, one portrait. On the tall portrait one, I open things like full-page Word documents, Bluesky, HTML editors etc. - anything that benefits from the extra vertical space. Having worked with dual monitors, I prefer my single 36" monitor for working with multiple windows concurrently.

I thought about doing that but decided against it, as in my case my second monitor contains my mixing desk which stacks instrument channels vertically, but I can see the benefit using it as you do.

No, but mainly because I have one 48" 4K monitor which gives me the capability to both approaches at once by easily snapping windows as needed

It find takes up less actual desk space than two physical monitors. It's mostly just a but more vertical. I do have it wall mounted on a dedicated mount which frees up even more desk space (but when I had two monitors I used to have them on adjustable arms as well, so much the same)

Not all of them have a swivel function, unfortunately. Maybe 1-in-5. So you might have to buy a new one to be able to tip it on its side.

When I worked at the office I did, really very useful. But my home office switches between pleasure/pain and it's too much of an arse to keep swivelling the second one round. Still miss it though.

I use those super wide monitors that are tall enough for A4, 4 of them side by side. A functional necessity for R&D.

I think 3 is the sweet spot by the way, after that diminishing returns ... plus you start needing monitor stands/ arms.

Yes, I have 2 unmatched monitors.

My main monitor is landscape and central. The second is actually more rectangular and is set portrait for things that work better viewed long.

It fit better in the physical space, and I think I make better use of the screen space.

It's genuinely amazing what a difference it makes.

Being able to look at one version of a document on one screen while working on the next draft on the other, for example. Or news articles and a blog post.

Or working on code on one monitor and testing it on the other.

Definite productivity boost.

Not all of them can, maybe 1-in-4? You have to buy one that includes a (physical) pivot function. But they're only maybe £20-30 more than a regular monitor with a single orientation stand.

Windows handles it just fine, assuming you're a Microsoft user.

I used to have the left hand monitor vertical but for some reason I couldn't get on with it. This set up is probably overkill for web development, but as Terry Pratchett once said when asked why he used 6 monitors: "I don't have room for 8"

I used to when I worked on company documentation, I thought it’d take a bit of getting used to but it clicked right away and the productivity gain was unreal
