Fun fact: In 1970, astronaut Ken Mattingly was supposed to be the Command Module pilot on Apollo 13 But he had been exposed to the measles & wasn't allowed to fly; he was replaced at the last minute Measles hasn't become "less dangerous" since then, but thankfully there's a safe measles vaccine 🥳

NO KINGS is extremely effective because it’s simple, an extremely widely held belief, and gets right to the core of Trump’s assault without having to use words lots of people don’t understand

Of all the things Elon Musk has said, this is the worst. We cannot rely on Trump and his shadow president Musk. The UK must boost defence spending and take the lead in Europe.

Already had six points, crashed in to someone, left the scene and drank wine to calm her nerves, gets another eight points (so, 14 total). Still allowed to drive - only has to pay £370.

New — State Department employees have been instructed *not* to reply to OPM’s 5 bullet email, per an email I reviewed, saying leadership “will respond on behalf of the Department.”

Please share this fact sheet on Ukraine with anyone who needs it understandingwar.org/backgrounder...

This is how you do it. Other news agencies like Axios and CBS, stop rolling over! Grow a spine, stand up straight and fight!

another Nazi salute at CPAC

Global crisis style note: What Trump is doing to Ukraine is not 'blackmail', which would be demand for payment under threat of exposure of compromising information*. This is demand for payment under threat of violence/refusal to protect from violence. The word is 'extortion'.

Judge Dale Ho Says NO to Trump's DOJ Trying to Dismiss Eric Adams' Criminal Case.

BBC News on hour reporting straight that Trump has got rid of military chiefs because ‘they’re too mired in woke culture’ 🤯🤯🤯 Traditional liberal democratic media still hasn’t learned how to report on authoritarians, even now when it’s almost too late

A new website created by about a dozen federal employees, called “We the Builders,” aims to be a secure outlet for government workers to share stories about how their workplaces are being impacted by DOGE, and a place to explain the real-world impact of its access to government tech systems.

Hard agree

Pleading with people to understand exactly this:

So. It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year. I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

BREAKING: Trump loses the first emergency plea of his second term at the Supreme Court. The case concerns Trump‘s removal of Hampton Dellinger as head of the Office of Special Counsel.

Nice place [Ukraine] you got there. Be a shame if something [ongoing Russian war crimes] happened to it [unless you give us half of your mineral wealth].

The absolute insanity of appallingly stupid laws passed by technical know-nothings. Just wait. As soon as this new vulnerability starts being exploited, firms such as banks will restrict or remove services for UK users, because they're on the hook for losses. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

The Commission has just released its new action plan on protecting undersea cables. A lot in there on deterrence (sanctions on bad actors, amped up presence, investment in monitoring tech) as well as the need for investment in more redundancy and repair capacity. ec.europa.eu/commission/p...

Sweet Baby Jesus, Why did you take our brains from us? Was it the Trump bibles? Was it worshiping a golden oaf? How can we make amends?

Great letter. But Musk tries to weaponise the concept of generational trauma AGAINST Elias. Yet it is he (Musk) that is displaying the characteristics of a very damaged human being. Elias has turned trauma to the good.

We tolerate this, as an acceptable price of motordom. Put up speed cameras, and drivers will cut them down. Find someone guilty of dangerous driving, and a judge will let them walk free. Take away someone's licence and they'll be given it back. www.bbc.com/news/article...

You never imagine the descent into despotism being quite this embarrassing, you know? You expect liberal democracy to fall to a Palpatine, not Biff Tannen.

In other words, a group of law-abiding citizens had their doors smashed in by the Border Force at night, because the Prime Minister wanted some "man of action" pictures for the telly. And this is regarded as a political "F-up", not an abuse of state power. It's like we learned nothing from Windrush

Calling Zelensky a “Dictator” must be where the line is drawn. It is my sincere hope that the whole political spectrum in the United Kingdom will speak with one voice in opposition to Trump’s lies.

Brexit: “that great victory for the sovereign right to cock things up”… give ourselves food poisoning, lose control, swamp ourselves in red tape, pay more for stuff and stubbornly isolate ourselves from our own continent… A relentless, ruinous stupidity. (Private Eye)

Cowardice. Their legislative bodies have sent men and women to DIE for ideals they’re too scared to vote to defend? Get the fuck out of office then and let someone with a spine take your seat.

This agency is the place that stops hackers from shutting down the power grid

Acosta: When Trump was out there on the campaign trail, he said, ‘On day one, I’m going to start lowering prices in this country.’ That hasn’t happened. And what is he doing? He’s going to the Super Bowl. He’s going to the Daytona 500. It’s like he’s on the StubHub Rapid Rewards program.

“In the past six months Russia has been humiliated in Syria, failed to dislodge three Ukrainian brigades from the Kursk region, and taken more than 200,000 casualties in advancing roughly the distance from central London to Heathrow airport.”

Chancellor Crystal Hines Martin of Hinds County, Mississippi has issued a prior restraint order so ludicrously unconstitutional it’s only consistent with deliberate misconduct or abject ignorance of the relevant law. Disgraceful and lawless. /1

I think this might be the most BS-laden post Trump has ever published, which by his gutter low standards, is extraordinary. And frankly very scary.

A Trump shill on Newsnight claims there are more people in prison in UK jails for freedom of speech violations than in Putin’s Russia. These people are radicalised, insane, plain stupid or some combination of all three.

Some of the most shameful comments uttered by a president in my lifetime. Trump is siding with the aggressor, blaming the victim. In the Kremlin they must be jumping for joy. I’d like to hope Republicans, who used to believe in resisting tyranny, would disavow the things Trump is saying & doing.

Time to stop calling it a negotiation. This is two autocrats, looking to leverage as much as they can from a sovereign country, lying about Ukraine, posturing without Ukraine. Europe has to step up fast. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

I hope America is as lucky as the delta jet - everyone survives but the right wing explodes

I don't think Trump is being blackmailed or bribed by Russia. I think he genuinely believes that a richer, bigger country should be able to do whatever it wants to smaller neighbours, and that Ukraine's defiance of Russia spits in the face of some imagined gangster-capitalist proper world order.
