Trump is looking to expand the US and judging by his recent actions he will become more aggressive to achieve that goal. NATO has a big problem.

US is no longer interested in supporting Europe and sees benefit in Russia taking Ukraine back into its sphere in return for ending arms supply and getting raw materials. Zelensky will be ousted and tried for war crimes. Europe powerless on its own.

Trump today blamed the war squarely on Ukraine saying they brought it on themselves so Zelensky has no right to be at the negotiations if that doesn't tell you who he's siding/working for then you must be Russian. I could not believe what I was hearing from Trump, unbelievable but it was said🤬

Unfortunately only likely to respond to strength. European proposal should not work within the framework US has laid out. Make clear commitment to UKR and willingness to support it. Move European forces to Rus border so have to allocate men from UKR. Ceasefire based on current. No UKR restrictions.

Step up and do what? America and Russia are effectively partitioning Ukraine. Europe is deliberately left out of the "negotiations" and will not be heard if it speaks up. The only "step up" available at this point is war, with Russia AND America at the same time. No good choices here.

First you'd have to know how much such sanctions would hurt Europe - and it would certainly be much more painful for Europe than for the US. US can very easily compensate lost European trade flows by amping up trade with South America and Asia. NATO, realistically, hangs on the US, too. Not good.
