tell me if this is correct. populism is fundamentally a loss of trust in the ruling class (elites). there are 2 flavors. right wing/left wing. the right use demagoguery and fascism to gain power. the left are economic populist reformer that make govt/institutions work for the ppl.

sounds good to me--though I haven't thought through definitions too much. I think of rightwing populism as "faux populism" because it sounds like it wants power for the people, but it's a lie/strategy of authoritarianism/demagoguery/fascism. There's probably a faux leftwing populism too, but idk.

Could we be seeing a resistance starting to emerge in the spontaneous anger at these town halls? This is like how the tea party movement formed. Maybe anger at billionaires could be a galvanizing force

That's the thing: Trump won with faux populism. When it's clear that he's a big Gilded Age Robber Baron dude, then the bubble might burst. Might/could.
