Met market, City Peoples, Kattermans, Mioposto, PCC, and more, all even closer than UVillage. As a long time owner who was lucky to buy circa 1990, I am embarrassed. I would love to have more infill apartments and fewer McMansions.

I'm 73 and car free. I get around mostly by bicycle. I live in Tangletown. In addition to nearby venues, I also frequently shop in Ballard and Greenwood. I have no desire to live in Bryant, but if I did, I would have no problem accessing goods and services.

Wow, as someone who grew up on 40th and 57th in Bryant, one of the things I loved most was how close we were to everything. Now it’s even better with the 65 bus and new eateries at 35th and 55th.

I bike past here frequently. That's a 10 minute ride, on a slow day. I highly suspect the commenter spends longer than that driving to the grocery store.

It’s a flat, 20 minute walk on the Burke from a regional shopping center, and a flat 10 minute walk from a local shopping district that has a sports shop, brewery, a hospital and barbershop, among others.

Well, the problem with the closure of Bartell's, the only real goods and services provider at U Village is QFC. Everything else is destination retail....In fact, where the hell is an actual drugstore in the 4 neighborhood area? I guess Rite Aid on 35th and 75th.

Rite Aid on 35th is a shell of its former self. 75% of the shelves are empty and it is frequently out of basic things like safety pins or face wash. The pursuit of shareholder value drove drug stores into the ground.

Fortunate for an actual neighborhood pharmacy. Where I live there had been three pharmacies in walking distance. Now all, including Roosevelt Bartell's, have closed. All of those Roosevelt customers' records were sent to the U Village Bartells. You can see where I'm going with this...

PBMs have absolutely taken over the pharmacy business and shuttered local pharmacies. But it's also because more and more consumers prefer to get their medicines by mail. It doesn't make sense to orient local land use policy around that.

U Village still even has a pharmacy at QFC!

? Yes, and now the long lines from Bartell's will be at the QFC. Drugs by mail don't help when you need antibiotics today, or to talk to a pharmacist. Also...for all intents and purposes, pharmacies are where people have to go for immunizations. MD offices often don't even carry them. I would say

that pharmacies are an essential part of health care infrastructure, and that they have nothing to do with "land use". Anyway, my main point is there is only one damn store in U Village that is actually practical for everyday use and that is the QFC.
