I think it’s imperative that Democrats say that the firings are illegal. In every piece of communication, it needs to be clear that Republicans are breaking the law.

Rule 1. Do not obey in advance, Rule 4. Take responsibility for the face of the world, Rule 10. Believe in truth. Do better @nature.org

Thinking of Sad Puppies and Gamergate for no very good reason.

Anyone could have told you they were planning to feed all of those emails to AI. What else were they going to do? Read the millions of emails they demanded? I don't think anyone believed the DOGE twerps were going to do that. People need to be cognizant of the AI end game for this whole project.

has a single mainstream journalist acknowledged that it was a massive media failure to treat project 2025 as a closed issue just bc trump lied a couple of times about not supporting it

I understand why these stories exist but it’s important to be clear that he’s not “saving” 16 billion, he’s choosing, personally, without oversight, to wipe out 16 billion dollars of government services to veterans and the disabled and food safety etc etc

Another word for "regulation" is... "consumer protection" "environmental protection" "Regulation" means your milk is safe. "Regulation" means toys that harm your babies are removed from the shelves. "Regulation" means chemical companies can't dump waste in your river.

Listen, we had to axe the Listeria department because we never heard of it and it sounded vaguely African and not the Elon kind. So your kids now have Listeria but no DEI. So basically a win/win.

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

‘You Can’t Let This Happen,’ Says Fundraising Email From Sitting U.S. Congressperson

Whether it's Hillary Clinton sharing risotto tips on a private email server or Elon Musk giving full access to all government information to a nineteen-year old named Big Balls with ties to a child pornography collective known for its extortion techniques, both sides have played loose with security.

the fucking enforcement arm of the federal government is launching a war on integration an effort to push tens of millions of americans to the bottom of an arbitrary hierarchy of value and yeah, it pisses me off to see nominal allies say “oh yeah maybe they have a point”

What is, say, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center supposed to do with this?

Now the whole country gets the experience of what it's like when private equity buys the place you work

SAQA (Studio Art Quilters Associates) isn't having any of AQS (Amer. Quilters Society) censorship. Just got an email from SAQA, excerpted below. Very proud to be a member of SAQA. #quiltsky

LA fires are a good reminder that the only difference between me and any refugee is luck.

Krysten Sinema: I don't have to go to work everyday but I will do so if only to deny people who do have to work everyday get screwed.

I kind of hate this widely-shared chart. While our life expectancy is too low and our health expenditure is too high, they are actually not particularly connected to each other. Most of the excess mortality is caused by cars, guns, and drugs - things that health expenditure has little to do with.

The fact that Rahm Emanuel still has a prominent voice in the Democratic Party in 2024 is indicative of Democrats' problems. I don't know how to explain to you that a person who actively covered up a police shooting and tried to tank an attempt at universal healthcare [only 2 examples] is terrible.

South Korea rn is what it looks like when people see democracy as a fragile thing that needs to be defended by all means necessary, and not as their inevitable birthright as citizens of an exceptional nation

Suuuuper helpful context about all the things that led up to what’s happening now.

@marthawells.com created one of the most iconic characters in 21st-century science fiction: Murderbot, reluctant savior of humanity. Then she faced an existential threat of her own. This is how Murderbot saved her life.

The new episode of "Next Comes What" is up! It covers how the U.S. has been moving further outside the rule of law for a long time and what that means in a second Trump administration. We look at how people stood against torture after 9/11 and how everyday Americans are already defying Trump allies.

If you appreciated "How We Survive This Mess," I'd love your thoughts on this next episode.

“And we did not realize, among all the warnings about doing nothing, what it would feel like when doing something was not enough.”
