When I taught film in the 00s I either bought physical copies or pirated (and - quietly - encouraged students to do the same and was lucky enough to end up with a few absolute wizards who would get me stuff I couldn't find myself). I think those remain the best options.

But free accessibility is higher than it's ever been, hmmm maybe a relationship here?

I used to store stuff because you couldn't count on getting someone for free whenever you wanted, that has not been necessary for a long time. It's all so easy to get now.
