IDK if this is a good enough method or traffic calming or would impact visibility too much, but I know I feel a lot better biking on the streets near me with trees and roundabouts than I do on the main roadway.

Roundabouts work just fine. They do not work with plants in small ones or without decent driver education.

It works to allow drivers to go the wrong way around the traffic calming circle and nearly hit me while biking or walking.

Stuff like this only works if drivers are considerate and patient and law abiding. Which they’re not…sooooooooo…

I’ve been running into (well, not literally) drivers doing that since 2006 in half a dozen neighborhoods around Seattle.

I think they just don’t care 😅

People drive through red lights so why have red lights at all. If you base the rules of the road on what the absolute worst drivers do, it'll be DeathMatch 2000 out there. People get better driving around roundabouts as they get more familiar with them. We just need a whole lot more.

Trust me. The driving here is shit. Utter shit. And that filters down through cyclists and pedestrians. Nobody here pays a damn bit of attention.

We have a bunch. It works fine. A trunk hardly blocks anything and what it does obstruct is not really relevant as any vehicle would be too far away to worry about.

I live right by 17th and Republican and I honestly don’t think that’s a good model for traffic calming.

The visibility is absolutely terrible. As a cyclist you’re merging onto a street with close to zero ability to see if a driver is speeding around the corner.

Good for peds, not for cyclists.

I really think the whole circle traffic calming thing that Seattle loves is awful for pedestrians and cyclists.

Much better would be a four-way neckdown with speed bumps. Force drivers into each other’s space, not ped/cyclist space.
