A Delta flight carrying ~80 passengers from Minnesota appears to have crash landed at Toronto Pearson Airport. No casualties reported as of this time. Numerous photos and videos have been released showing passengers safely exiting the plane, which flipped upside down. At least 8 people injured.

I flew in and out of Fairbanks AK in the middle of winter with no problem. A functioning system knows how to deal with bad weather. And if conditions are too unsafe then the plane should have never left the ground.

Also, the weather conditions at Toronto look pretty awful on the ground...but it's very rare for a plane to flip like that. Slide off the runway, sure, that happens a lot in those conditions and you're generally okay as long as you're properly strapped in (ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SEATBELT).

3:31 p.m. One pediatric patient was transported to hospital with critical injuries according to ORNGE. The emergency response service said they do not have information on any other transported patients yet.

ORNGE is the critical emergency transport system in Ontario. It means the kid was likely taken via helicopter 20kms away to Sick Kids, the best hospital for children in Canada. The pediatric care there is second-to-none.

The weather at Pearson this week features an elevated level of "Canadian Winter" in Toronto, as opposed to, say, somewhere else in Canada (where the snow usually falls).

A LOT of snow and it's windy and gusty as hell out there today (yes I live in T.O.)

That was likely the main villain here.

I agree. The plain took off from the states and that’s where safety/equipment checks would have happened. I would not presume this is unrelated.

We got rid of most of the people inspecting planes so this plane probably did not get the attention it needed when departing the US. But that could also be unrelated
