He's less free to say trans women are women (just like the rest of us). He's less free to say Free Palestine (just like the rest of us). He's less free to advocate diversity in his workplace (just like the rest of us). But he can't imagine wanting to use his speech for that in the first place.

Marco Rubio has ensured his place in history for war crimes.

Things get clear once you realize support for slavery in the United States never ended. It simply lost a war in 1865 and went underground.

They're charging the guy with attempted murder. So an assassination attempt.

this is the no fucking shit of all no fucking shits and yet barely anyone anywhere is saying it.

This is a concession by the U.S. government that its “arrangement” with El Salvador is irrevocable. To me this has to be grounds to argue that the arrangement itself is unconstitutional under the Fifth and Eighth Amendments

The remarkable thing about this column is that Klein doesn’t see, even now, that the means really really matter. You can’t skip democracy in the name of speed and expect things to go well. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/13/o...

BREAKING: 36k people showed up in LA for Bernie and AOC’s rally. In the off year. Americans are pissed — and anyone ignoring that is making a big mistake.

Everyone go outside and look at the moon!!!

My 16 year old is lovingly and patiently trying to help my 81 year old mother figure out how to access google maps on her phone. It’s been 15 minutes and she’s mayyybe found the search function. So anyway, this online access only Social Security plan should go great.

Last weekend in Chicago, 1500 historians gathered for the Organization of American Historians' conference where leading scholars discussed little things like, oh, the fate of democracy. I guess if we add some horny Nazis next year maybe CNN will come out and listen to what we have to say?

An autistic, nonverbal teenage boy who was shot repeatedly by Idaho police from the other side of a chain link fence while he was holding a knife died Saturday after being removed from life support, his family said.

If your client or loved one has been disappeared by the US gov, whether to Guantánamo, a Salvadoran gulag, or some other incomunicado/unregistered ICE or CBP facility, I urge you to report it to the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (thread): www.ohchr.org/en/special-p...

Trump tried to bury this story on a Friday night, but it’s extremely important: He’s planning to take land on the border controlled by the Dept. of Interior and sign it over to Dept. of Defense so migrants “would have trespassed on a military installation,” resulting in harsher punishment.

China said if you want to go low... we're taking it to HELL 😭

Trump just denied North Carolina’s request for FEMA relief from Hurricane Helene, calling it “unwarranted.”

Resistance to the Fugitive Slave Act included mobs, but increasingly came to include open defiance by state governments. Personal liberty laws. State court habeas writs. Officials assisting and shielding people. Federal courts ignored. Frankly a kind of anti-slavery nullification and interposition.

Mirya doing the thread that needed done right here.

This is happening in spite of the fact that the president is not in charge of the Smithsonian. It's not an executive branch government agency, rather it's chartered by Congress and under a board of regents created by statute, none of whom are even appointed by the president.

Although the scale of fascist behavior we've seen is new in scale and scope (which is frightening), I've also been frustrated at how discussions of fascism treat it as if it's something foreign to the US, rather than a constant part of US tradition.

“The administration seems to basically be saying they have the right to essentially declare people equivalent to dead who have not died. That’s a hard concept to believe, but it brings enormous risks and consequences.”

Giving little cousin approval on this casting choice.

I’m not kidding; this is DOGE at work; multiple US citizens getting notices that they just leave the country because USCIS is revoking their humanitarian parole. www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

Mahmoud Khalil addressing the judge today: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Adolf Hitler's “Mein Kampf” is still on U.S. Naval Academy shelves. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” and “Memorializing the Holocaust” are not. An order by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office led to a purge of books that are critical of racism — but preserved volumes defending white power.

“The Trump administration has moved to classify more than 6,000 living immigrants as dead, canceling their social security numbers and effectively wiping out their ability to work or receive benefits in an effort to get them to leave the country“

yeah man, please make my 85 year old great aunt prove her citizenship to vote in rural georgia, this definitely isn’t reminiscent of anything in the american past

BREAKING: An immigration court determined our client Mahmoud Khalil to be removable from the U.S. based solely on his political speech. The fight isn't over — we'll keep fighting for Mahmoud's freedom and all of our First Amendment rights in federal court.

Nine volunteers are ensuring anyone in the U.S. has access to over 1,200 books with LGBTQ themes and authors.

Jeanine: We found out there are people who are between the ages of one and four who are getting social security Jessica: That's the benefit for kids whose parents are dead.

COMPARE: the results of fighting back to the results of not fighting back

Trump once said, “You’re not gonna have to vote anymore.” Now the GOP is working overtime to make that real. The SAVE Act is voter suppression—forcing millions to show birth certificates or passports just to register. Yes, even if you already have a REAL ID. rewirenewsgroup.com/2025/04/01/o...

Under Republicans’ SAVE Act, your driver’s license won’t be enough to vote. You’ll need: 1. A passport, which more than half of Americans don’t have and costs at least $130 OR 2. A birth certificate with your current legal name, which nearly 70 million married women lack OR

The anti-voter SAVE Act just passed in the House of Representatives. Their motives are clear: the GOP wants to disenfranchise millions of Americans by putting up roadblocks to the ballot box. I will be leading the charge to stop this in the Senate.

😳

"If the Republican Party does not return Congress to the role it is meant to play and the courts don’t constrain the president, this cycle of destruction will continue and everyone on the planet will pay the price." @anneapplebaum.bsky.social www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

two years ago, silicon valley bank collapsed, threatening to wipe out large swathes of the fortunes of peter thiel and his cronies. so joe biden stepped in to cover their losses through the fdic. they were made whole. then they bankrolled trump. and now no one else will ever be made whole again.

“they are getting rich directly off the market chaos that’s ruining your retirement and gutting your investments” is the kind of shit that makes people very angry

Evil, just relentlessly evil

Here's another bit of good news: the House does not have the votes to pass the Senate's magic math budget and has canceled the vote for the night. Again: they can't move on with reconciliation and cut Medicaid and SNAP until the Senate and the House get on the same page with this.
