I love this. It shows how beautiful the area is. I am someone who grew up in AZ and every time I traveled outside the Southwest, heard there is no snow in AZ.
I hiked it once in March. The snow on the rim was hip deep, a couple hours in and the mud ( and mule poo) was ankle deep. Another couple hours and it was glorious springtime with everything in bloom. Magical trip of a lifetime.
I took my husband up there once. And, it started snowing at night. Big, beautiful snowflakes that seemed to dance in the wind. It was one of the most spectacular, mesmerizing sights we had ever seen anywhere in the world.
It truly is that good. There’s so much to see, besides South Rim. I used to work in Supai village, so I went down at least twice a week. Every single time was always spectacular. Come visit!
The north rim does not get the amount of visitors but it is closed in the winter. But the south rim is not heavily visited in the winter months if you are not into crowds.
Beautiful! The Grand Canyon has astronomers in residence now. It would be a little chilly up there looking through a scope now. It’s even cold in June when they have the big star party. I’m from AZ BTW
Snow on the canyon is so beautiful. When I hiked down on late October day there was snow on the rim, when I got to the bottom, I was wearing shorts! It is truly a magical place!
Put in on your Bucket List if haven't seen it. Enjoyed the train ride up there from the south, can't remember town, the guided bus tours were awesome-knew all the best spots. Great food. The Canyon indescribable.
Thank for all the gorgeous photos of all the places you’ve visited. I, too, love to travel but my current situation has me being a caregiver so your photos let me “get away” even if I can’t leave.
This is wonderful. I used to live in the GC village. I loved when it snowed there. It was so beautiful. On snowy days we’d go to this place called The Bright Angel Lodge and settle in with a nice beverage.
It's a fairly common occurrence. Northern AZ gets a fair frosting of snow during the winter. I lived a couple hours away from the Grand Canyon for 16 years.
So beautiful! Here in low lands of Phoenix, I do miss the snow, esp after this summer from Hell. It’s a 2 hour drive, maybe we head north for a couple of days.
This happened when we were there, too! April of 2001, it confused the living hell out of us. We were brits on our first trip to America's deserts, just staring out at it like "Shit, did it FOLLOW us?!"
My husband and I were going to be at the Grand Canyon last week. But after the election, we canceled our trip because we were so angry that Arizona went red. We even accepted the no-refund policy for our room reservation.
Looks like it was pretty chilly there!
So pretty! I have a very faint memory of a similar lookout with my folks around age 6, roughly concurrent with seeing a rare Kaibab squirrel 🥰 (I wasn't able to find any population estimate.)
The only place in the world I know of where you can camp on the north rim and your water bottle freezes and by noon you can be down inside the canyon and it’s well over 100
I live in Arizona and have been to Grand Canyon twice. So incredible. Once in the winter with snow on the ground and once in the summer which was way too hot, lol.
Beautiful photo you took.
I was a rebellious teen when my parents took me to the Grand Canyon for vacation. Sneaking off to smoke, I found the most amazing off the grid spot. I ran back and shared. We all saw beauty.
Beautiful! There's nothing like seeing it snow in such a pristine place! We're hoping to hit Yosemite in the snow this December ourselves. Of course even if it doesn't snow it'll still be amazing.
I was at the Grand Canyon in January 1973 when it was snowing & overcast. I could not see into the Grand Canyon. I started hiking down. At some point I got below the cloud cover. My 1st view of the Grand Canyon was from inside the Grand Canyon and was absolutely awe-inspiring. Thanks for the memory.
