Just a scientist, standing above a boreal floodplain filled with boglands, asking you to respect and admire bogs. Keepers of carbon, cleaners of water, springboards of unique biodiversity - peatlands globally need our attention and protection.

What do you call a forested wetland if not a swamp? I'm a huge fan of swamps, personally. I have a vernal complex nearby that's full of Spotted Salamanders.
Great to see! Shared this post on https://GuardiansofEarth.io - love how every environment is unique, why #biodiversity is often best explored through a local lens by "just a scientist" like you!
I recently read a thread on the other site about how the UK basically destroyed all their historic bogs through terraforming with artificial drainage for agriculture and to reduce crime and banditry. The whole thing was deeply upsetting to me. The UK is a barren ecological wasteland now.
Nice to meet you! I've been involved in saving a Norwegian peat marsh for over ten years - success! Restauration next. PS: National awareness has risen and laws have changed during this period.
