A lot of folks would respond better by framing zoning as burdensome regulations that limit your property rights. Zoning should be talked about as an un-America scheme that allows the government and annoying neighbors to dictate what you can and can’t do with your property.

Americans hate being told what to do especially with their property and for better or worse a lot of us have had it drilled into our heads that regulations are bad and cutting them is a positive. Let’s us that to our advantage

I wish you could do the one where you show a trolley suburb and say, "Da gov'ment needs to stop attacking the suburbs [with single family zoning and lot size reqs and parking reqs]!!" but I think that would have the Colbert Report problem where conservatives would take it as pro zoning.
