I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. Because of the Ukrainian War, the Russian soldiers propping up Bashar Assad's regime has started leaving for home to fight in the homeland. All the invaded countries by Russia will now start to take back their lands. Georgia et al take note!
there seems to be some conflicting news of force involvement, some report jihadists (al-Qaeda aligned) are attacking Syrian Army w/ Russian air support. others report it's the FSA backed by Turkey. @ildav.fellas.social thanks for the input I guess we're looking for more info. f*ck assad & russia.
It's the usual fog of war, btw there was multiple factions as long as I remember.
Assad forces baked by ruZZia, Freedom Syrian Army/resistance against Assad regime with some support from from US, jihadists with support from Daesh, Kurds controlling the north
There are several very different groups of rebels, several of which are fundamentalist Islamists. There’s a reason Assad has had support of several religious minorities in Syria for so long, unfortunately.
FSA was about on par with the Kurds as far as good guys go - neither perfect, both willing to work with bad guys, but in general, far better than better than either Assad or Daesh.
And both generally disliked each other :Þ Esp. the Turkey-backed FSA groups vs. the Kurds.
While I deeply hope to see Assad and his regime held accountable and fall, I fear that what replaces it may not necessarily be much better for the people :(
When entities as diverse as the US, Russia, China, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Iraq, Assad himself, the other rebel groups, etc are all intensely opposed to such an outcome, it's just not going to be accepted without military intervention.
The Taliban is content to be fundamentalist arses in their own country. They're not a bunch of genocidal rapists and murderers trying to conquer the entire Middle East.
And can I just say how damned annoying it is to argue that people shouldn't have freedom from a dictator who maintains power by mass torture and murder, just because *some* of the people who also want freedom happen to be fundamentalists?
All involved actors had a chance to come to a good solution in Syria a long time ago but didn't do that (short sighted self interest) and now we will all pay for that again on top of all horrors to the Syrian people the last 13 years.
If everything collapses before January 20th, Trump is will spend the next 4 years wanking while Europe will rebuild Ukraine. The only thing he could do is destroy USA, at the advantage of China.
After the initial horrifying picks, shitler has also appointed some surprisingly sane foreign policy people recently. We’ll see if they last. Maybe they can manipulate him into thinking Putin makes him look weak.
It would be wildly out of character for Merrick Garland to do that. Pam Bondi's not doing it, either.
I don't think people are grasping how much we've already lost. trump is purging the military to get generals who will fire on American citizens. Peaceful protest is over.
What in the Lord's name happened in the US? Your democracy has gone down the drain. Unelected guys, like the South African dude, have a major say in US politics and are coming after elected people he doesn't agree with. The president elect starts a conflict with the friendliest of neighbours, Canada
It happened very fast in 1917, 1991. It is just a matter of time, probably.
Then we have some interesting times. Russia divided up into regions with nuclear weapons and Winter on the doorstep.
I think what you describe about Russia breaking up with nuclear weapons in regional hands is why Biden seems cautious about totally freaking-out Putin. He does sabre-rattle, but you have to consider the possibility that he might use a nuclear weapon.
But you can't live your life being scared - sometimes you just have to be brave and stand up for what you believe in for the good of your family and their future.
I agree with you, but I also believe that the free world has to stand for Ukraine without being reckless.
We have to help Ukraine win, and we have to be smart about it. The best thing would be if the Russians got rid of their gangster regime.
In an ideal world yes, but fact is they never will get rid of that regime because that's how their country is.... autocratic Tsars, then Lenin, Stalin, Putin.... even when they have a chance to have a more progressive, democratic way of life they reject it for dictatorship. We must be more proactive
Well That’s what happens when you get to the point you think you’re a dictator. You end up losing territory. And then you Losing a war that you started the Stupid dictator of Syria.
Is there a moderate "good" side to root for in Syria? Assad is an evil bastard but, much of the opposition seems to be Isis lite islamists.
The Kurds were a moderate, positive force in their areas but, the ex-president sold them out to placate Turkey.
Pay attention, America. I hope we never need to do this...but...45 and his planned regime are more and more acting in the same way an authoritarian fascist dictatorship would...so pay attention.
That's been the plan -- openly -- and they're following through.
Do Americans understand what it means when the president refuses to sign the ethics part of the transition MOU and substitutes his own which explicitly does NOT apply to him?
Do they know Cabinet / other folks will have security ...
... clearances WITHOUT FBI background checks? trump says they "have their own people"
trump refused the $7.2 million + GSA services to assist the transition. His donors are paying for all that. He'll tell us "later" who those donors are.
Come on Charlotte. Of course American understand it..
Do you really think that people who voted for Trump care he won't sign it? They know about his crimes, and they want him president for president anyway, so...
Why do think the rest of us unaware of the implications?
No MAGA voter I spoke to said, "I'm voting for him bc we need a dictator to decide everything. I hate democracy & free speech. No one should criticize trump. It's good that he gets $ for raising gas prices + mining nat'l parks. I'm glad he'll imprison/execute innocent people w/o due process."
They're crying about tariffs. Do they know how much deporting a workforce will cost them? They're not expecting *their* husband / boss / neighbor to be deported, they're the good illegals!
"I can't wait for people w criminal bkgds to have our Top Secrets to sell/trade." MAGA says that?
Comments
And hope.
This has been going on for a long time. It's not going to be finished today.
Go #Syria! Reclaim your country and your dignity!
Are you a real fella?

But mercenaries have limits too.

Sunni Wahhabist groups in Syria are funded by Saudi Arabia and supported by Israel both with weapons and medical treatment inside Israel
Syria was doomed when it bent the knee to Putin after Obama started Operation Timber Sycamore
I completely lost track of all of them

And that support just collapsed.
🙏
Lets hope Syria gets a decent government but a lot of those pushing Assad out are fundamentalists.
The Taliban is content to be fundamentalist arses in their own country. They're not a bunch of genocidal rapists and murderers trying to conquer the entire Middle East.
Collapse of ruble.
Collapse of assad.
Collapse of twitter.
He paid all that money for nothing. HAHAHAHAHA.
Maybe JD Vance is CIA 😂
That's a very rational act...
trump says his nominees; and anyone else wanting a security clearance, won't undergo FBI background checks; he has his own people for that.
If the Senate lets him confirm his nominees, or rubber-stamps his choices, it's become part of the Executive
It would be wildly out of character for Merrick Garland to do that. Pam Bondi's not doing it, either.
I don't think people are grasping how much we've already lost. trump is purging the military to get generals who will fire on American citizens. Peaceful protest is over.
May Syria and Ukraine and Georgia and everywhere else Russia is be free
They are FLEEING. Big difference.
Then we have some interesting times. Russia divided up into regions with nuclear weapons and Winter on the doorstep.
We have to help Ukraine win, and we have to be smart about it. The best thing would be if the Russians got rid of their gangster regime.
Moldovans don't want blood to be spilled.

It's in the paper, everyday, what they're doing.
Do you really think that people who voted for Trump care he won't sign it? They know about his crimes, and they want him president for president anyway, so...

"Women shouldn't get divorced if husbands beat them. They're only good for making babies. I don't plan, in case I get pg from rape & need to parent."
Like saying rats "leave" a sinking a ship.
