⚡️🇺🇦 Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suggested a ceasefire deal could be struck if Ukrainian territory he controls could be taken "under the NATO umbrella" - allowing him to negotiate the return of the rest later "in a diplomatic way".

He's smart. He knows Putin invaded Ukraine to use her as a buffer between Russia and NATO. Ukraine under NATO protection, doesn't matter if Ukraine is a NATO member or not, totally destroyed Putin's plan by moving NATO forces to Russia's doorstep.
I feel that the buffer zone argument is moot. Finland is in NATO and right on the border, but you don't see Russian troops lining up to fight back. No, Putin is a coward and a bully. Zelenskyy's suggestion is the only one I can see that doesn't eventually result in fighting starting again.
If Ukraine gets full article 5 protection and russian withdrawal would have to be a condition of lifting sanctions, then it could work, but I wouldn't trust either russia to withdraw or the west to keep sanctions in place till they do.
I hope those critical of this statement understands the intent of it
It puts the shoe on the other foot - those asking Ukraine to negotiate (aka surrender) now have to reject the “peace” deal
putin never tries to make deals unless he’s on the backfoot
russia/putin never honours any deal - they break it soon as they’ve recouped - that’s his plan here as well
Which is why Zelenskyy’s statement - after this instead of blaming Ukraine for not wanting peace, the onus is on NATO & russia
This doesn’t sound right. Zelenskyy looks very weak if he’s willing to discuss this. Putin will not stop at it, no matter if he’d accept such deal. He will take the time to prepare for the next round which will be far worse. That will most certainly lead to the end of it all.
Yeah i don't think this means give up on. Rather, it just means accepting russian occupation for now. Winning the 'right peace' now can still be a death blow to putin and the terreroties might come back later. Sanctions remaining largely in place more arms delivered during the pause in fighting.
From Trumps point of view it shows zelensky is willing to negotiate s
And means he'll end up putting pressure on putin, and if putin doesn't yield to this pressure, Trump might be forced to double down and help ukriane.
Im fairly convinced ukraine having long range weapons able to fire into Russia. Biden is trying to get more support through Congress and the rebels in syria are all (odd as this sounds) Biden and Trump working together to put maximum pressure on Putin
I think you give trump way too much credit. I don't think he has the brains for that Also, trump's stoolies are pro-putin. They can manipulate him because he is so ignorant.
They're not all pro putin that there is no doubt. If Trump really didn't want the long range missles and potentially new funding through congtess, we'd hear about it
And part of what zelensky is doing now is to butter up Trump.
Moscow will become the obstacle for trump and not Kyiv.
Stuart Ramsay is an excellent reporter. One of our best. Has just done some amazing work in Gaza. He almost lost his life in Ukraine back in 2022 when ruZZians shot him in the back while he was working for Sky.
Zelenskyy told Sky News NATO membership would have to be offered to unoccupied parts of the country in order to end the "hot phase of the war", as long as the NATO invitation itself recognises Ukraine's internationally recognised borders.
Virtually impossible to admit a new NATO member engaged in an active conflict. The founding principle of NATO is deterrence. That concept cannot be applied to an ongoing conflict.
Zelenskyy, and I assume people of his entourage, are excellent at diplomacy. At first glance this arrangement leave the occupied territories in a sort of a limbo. But it would weaken Putin politically, since one of the stated main objectives of the military operations was to prevent NATO expansion
Too much trust in EU, NATO, US etc. is not the best solution for Ukraine.
The Budapest Memorandum is proof of that...
Besides, since when does Putler-suka keep any agreements?
I'm always with thr people of Ukraine. Even if I personally don't agree because I think the end of Putin is close I will be always on the side of what Ukranian people decide, the majority. For this, I suggest to only remove sanctions from Russia when they leave all Ukranian land
Tout a fait d'accord, l'agresseur c'est la Russie, pas de levée de sanctions avant le retrait complet des troupes russes du territoire Ukrainien reconnu Internationalement.
I know people are gonna doom because it's "Giving up territory" but when you think of it. Trump and Kellogg will be chairing the ceasefire talks and Zelenskyy is gonna try pitch the best possible deal for Ukraine. This is getting ahead of what Moscow might offer which is shrewd.
