I was a little confused about this myself, thank you for clarifying! I think this is what happened: Westerners often think of Poland being attacked by Nazi Germany and forget they were basically invaded by russia.

Actually 1945 make perfect sense. It's Yalta conference, where after all Poland have done fighting Russia (a country which invaded us together with Germany) we were given to them by Europe and US.
I'm inclined to draw comparisons to Chamberlin's betrayal of Czechoslovakia in 1938, but that's just personally closer for me. Yalta 1945 was probably the most recent and most egregious of several betrayals in the last ~100yrs.
The real turning point, was Czechoslovakia being forced to give up the Sudetenland. Ironically, Poland supported that. Czechoslovakia had a strong army and a functioning democracy. They could have stopped Hitler with a little help.

Let's not forget the US lend lease to the UK also came at a price and it wasn't paid off until 2006. Also it took Hitler to declare war on the US for them to join the European theatre.
At this point, the Soviets were Allied with the Nazis, which in part caused this situation. So UK were basically all alone at this point since France had pretty much collapsed as well
