It's just double crochet with a chain space in between. Then you weave yarn through those chain spaces (three strands per row).

Very cool! I have a couple projects where I *intended* to come back and weave strands through like this and I never manage to 🤦🏻♀️ Maybe this year is the time I’ll finish those haha I love the look!

Now that I've done these placemats, I want to do a giant blanket in the same style. The weaving goes so fast once you get going.
