So many lotteries had to be won for intelligent life to develop on Earth (photosynthesis, complex life, expansion onto land, plate tectonics, etc.) It's tough to say how common intelligent life is out there.
I think Prof. Brian Cox is right to say the Earth and it's biosphere are precious.

If they use Exoplanet transmission spectroscopy (which my wife invented) they would see Oxygen at 21% by volume and that shouldn’t be there unless it is being replenished … something like that … I guess I should ask Sara 🤣
