Elon Musk's attempted coup continues to expand. Yet again, USA: Require that your members of Congress act to stop all this; to hold Musk personally accountable; and to #ImpeachTrump & remove him.

This is the recommended pediatric vaccine schedule. If your child is behind for any reason, or if you aren’t sure of their status, call your pediatrician *tomorrow*.

Looking to access important public information on earthquakes? Not so fast, you have to wait while fewer employees than ever frantically try to find maps with geographic names that satisfy the whims of the guys taking away your rights.

Public universities often receive little state funding. Grants fund research and training of future researchers and practitioners (undergrad/grad students). Access to funding opportunities is important for recruiting incredible faculty that make US universities great. An example from Colorado:

there are so many things happening right now to federal employees that are illegal under current employment laws

Despite being labeled as a terrorist organization, being banned & having at least 258 staff members killed by Israel in over 650 attacks on their buildings since Oct. 2023, UNRWA has vowed to continue its humanitarian work for Palestinians until unable to do so. unicornriot.ninja/2025/unrwa-v...

Assuming the OPM email is as before: 1. It is unencrypted and unauthenticated 2. Asks you to send "what you did for your job, specifically?" info in plain text, unauthenticated reply with no confirmation where it went An agency might use as a test of who falls for phishing attempts

Public health teams are being gutted, imperiling work to safeguard organ donation and prevent maternal and infant death. “We are hollowing out our government in a way that is going to hurt people and is going to get people killed.” https://propub.li/4370xr2

Graduate admissions being put on hold because of the chaos...

“I have to decide...whether to take new students into my lab, and I don’t know if I can afford them,” said Rutgers prof @annikabarber.bsky.social "there are no NIH study sections...there is a six-month funding gap …That is going to close small labs.” @aaup.bsky.social @ruaaup-aft.bsky.social

The second-largest sea of liquid methane on Saturn's moon Titan, Ligeia Mare, based on radar data captured 18(!) years ago today. I miss working on Cassini daily, and I daydream of Dragonfly cruising Titan's hazy skies. science.nasa.gov/resource/vas...

I truly think people don’t realize how many universities and colleges — especially public ones — may shut down if restrictions on and withholding of federal funding persists for even one presidency We are facing the demolition of American higher education

#subpost This is a reminder that the most-likely-next-word text generator programs are not designed to and cannot do signal analysis or even basic math.

Measles are contagious. Measles cause 1 in 4 people to be hospitalized. Measles can be deadly especially in children. Measles can cause blindness & deafness. Measles can cause brain damage yrs later. Measles can cause "immune amnesia". Measles are preventable with MMR vaccine. #medsky #IDsky 🛟 😷🧪

The likely path of the asteroid 2024 YR4 has drifted away from Earth and toward the Moon. Here is what the view from the small Asteroid could be at closest approach to the Moon, extrapolated from the most recent visualization on NASA's Eyes On Asteroids. Sunlight and Earthlight shine on both.

Current status: we're smuggling eggs in from Mexico now. So let's talk about WHY Mexico's egg industry has been stable- while US egg prices are through the roof! 1. Mexico puts people in jail for price-fixing. 2. Mexico lets farmers vaccinate their chickens against bird flu.

And, for the record, global sea-ice extent, already at an all-time low for the date, is going the wrong way.

Periodic reminder that the data from NASA missions, like the Mars rovers, is public domain for anyone to access for free. All of the images taken by the Mars rovers are available online usually within 24 hours of being transmitted back to Earth. Science is a public good. 🔭 🧪

Even before Trump 2.0, the Social Security Administration’s staffing levels were at a 50-year low due to a decade of budget caps & cuts authored by GOP lawmakers. Further staff cuts and office closures can only make things worse for America's most vulnerable. New, @propublica.org

#2024YR4

"Much-hyped"? I think folks generally did a good job of putting this object in context and focusing on the dominant probability that it wouldn't hit. The most irresponsible thing I saw posted about 2024 YR4 is this headline.

Republicans want to pass a bill that would disenfranchise someone you know. The SAVE Act is the GOP’s attempt at mass voter suppression disguised as an election integrity bill — and we need to get loud to stop it: indivisibleteam.medium.com/maga-has-a-b...

For 38 years, PRAMS has collected critical data on maternal-child health with the goal to reduce infant morbidity and mortality. CDC has officially halted the 2024 PRAMS data collection for the participating 46 states and the future is uncertain.

It's extremely worrying to see universities facing choices that can lead to this. Graduate education leads to new knowledge and future leaders, and even a temporary pause in some PhD programs is a huge loss. Has anyone heard any updates on publicly-funded fellowships like NSF GRFP?
