I don't want "the smartest" people on my team. I want the best teammates. If we can work together well, then combined we can be smarter than the smartest person; if we can't work together well, it doesn't matter how smart you are.

putting 50 coordinating idiots in a room doesn't make them smart. .no matter how well they are coordinated.. while your statement on working together is correct, it take a team to reach a team goal... but sometimes it is better to follow the old adage. Lead , follow or get the hell out of the way
Totally agree. And I try to go further and talk about being able to work as part of a team as a kind of intelligence that is at least equal, if not more valuable, than domain knowledge.
This. I think the older I get the more the "best person for the job" is not just a racist dogwhistle, but a dumb idea full stop. The idea that there is any such thing is kind of a childish fantasy.
Please tell your students 😂 There are lots of people who will have content/subject area knowledge. There are not as many people who know how to work well as part of a team. I would rather have the latter.
