The other notable thing is how much staff is on the ground monitoring electronic gates. A business that instead of investing in infrastructure and skilled personnel to run the system, cuts wherever it can and then recruits for roles that are essentially policing for when customers get annoyed.

Curses will never be enough for the way the British railway has been turned into a pain for travellers. Trains are routinely late and eye-watering expensive. Trains with no booked seat should allow you to take a later/earlier one but No. Prices fluctuate. It's not considered a service, but a luxury.
