The lighting in 10 Forward from Amargosa is absolutely epic... The camera work to make it feel like you were in space orbiting a weird star was delightful, and not something I've seen before or since...
One way to see the character growth of Picard due to this film is that the fire that killed his brother and nephew kind of made Jean-Luc realize he had 1 life to live, so he decided all future missions he would "Do a Die Hard"...
The moment Gynan was talking with Picard by the tree, that was magical. I loved Generations! Personally I put it third behind The Undiscovered Country and The Wrath of Khan.
I watched this while wrapping gifts the other day and have been quoting it all week to people who have no idea why I am saying things like βI get it!β
I saw the notification for this and assumed you were watching The Muppets Christmas Carol. I guess I watched two different very Abby-friendly movies today. π
I have always loved Generations. Iβve never really understood why itβs not generally ranked higher as Iβve always felt it was a great Trek fi. I sometimes wonder if itβs Kirkβs death and the destruction of the Enterprise that bugs people, rather than the film itself, as neither bother me?
3. Admittedly the D being destroyed did bother me because, even without shields, that Bird of Prey is no match for a Galaxy Class starship, which they acknowledge.
The score is great and it's a pretty decent cinematic movie, but it suffers from knowing 7 previous years of characters and knowledge.
I always felt like destroying the Enterprise was a waste. Its not impactful like losing the original 1701 in Search for Spock. Otherwise, I felt like it was a good Trek Movie.
I love how Data hands his sword to a random crewman when he walks onto the bridge, and they just take it like this is a perfectly normal sequence of events.
I like to imagine that most promotions on the Enterprise D were carried out this way (but never shown due to budget), so the ship's crew were perfectly used to it.
Is Veridian III right next to its sun or something? (Which raises questions about Veridians I and II) How does the rocket get there so quickly, and why does the sky go dark immediately?

Data - "I hate this! It is revolting!"
Guinan - "Moreβ½"
Data - "Please!"
Soren - "Time is the fire in which we burn..."
Geordi - "Data..."
Data - "That was..."
Geordi - "Not funny!"
(Geordi was, ironically, incorrect, it was *indeed* funny...)
*adds to watch list
1. I hate that they kill his brother and nephew just to make him want a family, which he's never wanted before, in the Nexus.
2. There's no reason Picard needed to go back to Veridian III to fight Soren when he can time travel to any point before that.
The score is great and it's a pretty decent cinematic movie, but it suffers from knowing 7 previous years of characters and knowledge.
2nd act on the holodeck was great too.
Amargosa was amazing!
Soren was a wonderful villian.
Score was great.
Duras sisters were awesome.
The pacing was problematic.
The juxtaposition of Kirk & Picard felt forced.
Still a decent movie
They disposed of the D when it *finally looked good* in a proper cinematic aspect ratio. (4:3 just didn't do the Galaxy Class justice).
But it is currently one of my absolute favorite movie scores...
I had my 13th birthday party at a viewing of Generations, and let me tell you β oof.
