I'm sure there's a similar quote from when the human genome was sequenced well over 20 years ago. Like any technological advancement, it will aid me and my fellow researchers but I'd love to be wrong on this one for the sake of family, friends and patients everywhere
Probably; but the medical and pharmaceutical industries are the 2nd largest financial sector in the USA, and of course because our insane fealty to raging capitalism makes everything we do a for-profit enterprise, they’ll spend 50 years figuring out how to monetize cures before anyone can be helped.
AGI and self-awareness are two entirely different things. As long as it’s not exhibiting signs of self-preservation, then who cares about the safety factors. Whoever reaches AGI first wins.
Perhaps Demis could contact actual medical researchers who investigate treatments every single day for decades.
