I don't want to get sappy about Democracy, but when you are elected by the people in a representative democracy like ours, at any level, you are imbued with a sacred responsibility, entrusted to you by the people to be their collective voice. It's bigger than any one individual.

And this isn't hypothetical, as a resident of Worcester I am a constituent of Councilor Nguyen and to not show up is offensive to me and diminishes my voice. It pisses me off, and I have a right to be pissed off.

I hear what you’re saying but they didn’t say they were going to stop working. Much of the work city councilors do is not on the floor. I think a lot of them would tell you that.
